Hi, Like a lot of Aperture users I use photo stream, now iCloud to manage my favourite photo’s over my devices such as iPhone’s, iPads and Apple TV. Now that function seems to have been removed and we are left with dozens of “latest photo’s”. has anyone worked to a way to overcome this?? For example creating folder called favourites and merging with devices??
I’m not sure what you mean, my Aperture still displays a choice of my photo streams in the iCloud, no changes recently….?

Thats interesting. Since upgrading to ios8, the selected photo stream has disappeared from iPhone, Ipad,etc.

As with Joseph’s discovery that ios8/photos remove the iCloud journals of ios iPhoto , this appears to be another instance of not knowing what goes away when you upgrade. So once again I suggest how responsible , RESPONSIBLE, it would be for APPLE to clarify/ list what functions go away or are significantly changed. Apple says here is out product. Here is what it does and here is what it no longer does. This is what you need to know to decide whether to use these new products. We would like to keep you in the family, and now you have what you need to decide to use or not use our new operating systems and products.
Better to provide that feedback to Apple via their website than here where they won’t see it…

Simon:thanks for the reminder. Always a good idea to post to Apple. But please consider this additional approach. If enough aperture users who participate in Joseph’s web site feel similar to the description I posted–and also post such here–it is my belief that Apple will be aware of this discussion. And if such such a discussion were to happen here, it might even bring some additional ‘oomph’. Best regards.

Nope, I’m not happy with ios8 so havent installed it on any devices - which I know cant help you - so havent got a workaround development platform (or need).

Also have not installed ios 8 because of so many ambiguities from APPLE. So no solution to offer – other than don’t upgrade yet.
Don McAllister (Screencasts online) has released one of his tutorials today regarding photo management and he notes that “photo management has changed in ios8 with some radical changes. Camera Roll has gone (for now) and Photostream view has also gone.”
I have not watched it yet but will post a summary once I do. He seems to say that “ios8 is currently in an interim phase with the launch of iPhoto cloud Library not yet announced, and its absence is causing SOME CONFUSION.” In this episode he will try to address some of the management issues as it stands now.
I will post later after reviewing this episode.

Here is a quick synopsis of the Screencasts Online treatment of photos for ios8. This episode is a treatment of ‘organizational changes’ to photos under ios8. Don says these changes are causing confusion, in part because Yosemite and its photos app is not yet out. Don is explicit—about the ambiguity with which we are working in respect to what to do—how to proceed—not knowing how Yosemite and photos will affect us.
SCOL notes what we already know: iPhoto goes away when upgrading to ios8. And we also lose iPhoto journals as Joseph pointed out earlier. SCOL reminds us to make web archive versions of our journals if we care about them.
As for ios8 photo management, it seems to still be evolving
SCOL points out that PHOTO STREAM still works with MAVERICKS. But I don’t know what the adverb STILL means. SCOL does not get into whether photo stream will work/ or how it will work with Yosemite.
We don’t know how photo stream will work with iCloud photo library after Yosemite. But there is a suggestion the new iCloud photo library will make significant changes in organization , and perhaps , solve some of the issues currently experienced because of the non-simultaneous release of ios8/ photos and iCloud photos/ Yosemite.

I have successfully upgraded to Yosemite, iCloud Drive and Aperture 3.6. All is working well. Photos taken on my iPhone 5s (iOS8.02) show up in Aperture, although now Photostream is named iCloud. On first launch I did need to switch iCloud sharing back on in Aperture.
Otherwise Aperture appears to be working well on Yosemite.

Hi,
I’m not sure if this is related or not, but I am having some issues with iCloud streams and Aperture, and I was hoping someone might have a solution. I am running iOS 8.1 on my iPhone and iPad, and Yosemite (10.10) with Aperture 3.6 on my iMac.
Photos that I push to My Photo Stream or share with a new stream through Aperture show up just fine on my iPhone/iPad in the Photos app. However, photos shared with me from other people do not show up in Aperture.
In one case, I created a shared photo stream in Aperture and pushed a number of pictures to it. Then, a person with whom I had shared the stream added a number of their photos. I can see these added photos on my iPhone, but they are not in Aperture. Only the pictures I took are in Aperture.
In a second case, someone shared an iCloud photo stream with me. I can see the photos on my iPhone and iPad, but in Aperture I see only a blank entry in the “Family and Friends’ Streams” section.
Fwiw, I also tried opening my library with iPhoto, hoping that the iCloud photos might download, but they did not. In iCloud preferences, I have all of the boxes checked except for “Automatic Upload”, since I want to be selective about which photos are sent to my photo stream.
Has anyone seen this issue? Is there a workaround?

Aperture was my most loved instrument for both sorting out and controlling RAW photographs taken with my DSLRs. It was quick, it had huge amounts of extraordinary hierarchical highlights, and was very versatile. I Migrated from Aperture to Photos. Photos offer iCloud Photo Library, which allows me to store all my photos in the cloud and have ‘light’ copies of my library on my Macs and iOS devices where space is a concern.
