Nik Software and Photos for OSX #1

Latest FAQ (link) on NIK software/Google, they mention they are looking into supporting Photos for OS X.

This is better than a straight “no we won't support it”.

If Apple can get the organizational part of Photos as good as, or better than Aperture I think this could be a home run. Specially because all those plug-ins/extensions will work straight into the RAW files and no more exporting TIFF (non-destructive!!).

Let's just hope they don't take too long to get there.

Cheers

Raf

Yes, that cooperation with others was expected to be to concept of PHOTOS and PHOTOS should be the framework. PHOTOS might come at no cost but we will have to pay for the plug-ins. Do you think that this is correct?

Best regards, Alex

I will gladly buy the Nik suite again if it integrates well with Photos on both iOS and OS X. Dfine’s automated application of custom profiles is a killer feature in my workflow, as is Sharpener’s RAW Presharpen module, and building these into the RAW pipeline would be a huge time-saver.

I have already paid for Nik's plug-in before Google bought it (was way more expensive BTW). I would pay twice as much if they release a non-destructive plugin for Photos.

I guess this will be a different model. You get Photos for free and pay for the plug-ins you think it's worth paying for. I don't know you, but i paid full price for Aperture when it was first released (no regrets though).

Cheers

Plenty of “ifs” here but assuming Apple creates a solid foundation with essential tools - it would be great to see NIK come on-board as part of the non-destructive workflow. If it’s not NIK I have no doubt some other players will come to the party. MacPhun has some has some great stuff that is equal to or better than NIKs great add ons.

I hope Apple hits this one out of the park - even if we have to wait a bit for the initial release.

Does anyone know if there has been any progress getting the Nik plug ins to work with Apple’s Photos app?

Thanks!  Tracy

NikGoogle hasn’t done jack didily squat on even updating Nik to be officially compatible with OS X 10.11, or even WinDoze 10.

I have this feeling Google’s abandoned Nik.

Thanks Charles.  That is what I was afraid of.  I’m still running 10.8.5 because I had gotten into such a nice groove with the Aperture and Nik combo.  Too bad Google had to get all aquisitive…..hrrrummph.

Is there any other software that is beginning to approximate the capability of the Nik / Google suite?

Probably the closest would be MacPhun’s Creative Kit 2016.
