Photos is in very early Beta but I think we can get the idea now that is aimed to iPhoto or smartphone users.
You Pro users what are going to do and why?

- Lightroom
- Capture One
- Other
- Wait more for final Photos

There is another option: Aperture.

I always felt really sorry and couldn't understand people that sticked to OS9 because whatever software was not supported by OSX. Same happened when Apple moved to Intel machines and again there was another lack of compatibility that would prevent them from updating the system.

I have always been very keen on being the first to download the new OS, excited about the new features. Even signed up for dev account to get access to early betas and provide feedback. I think Yosemite will be my last OSX update for quite a while. Or at least, I will wait until Aperture is fully tested in the new OS X (no updated does not mean it won't work).

I think I was already expecting to follow this path. Once Apreture's demise was announced, I did not planned a migration path. I waited for the new retina iMac (originally was planning on a MacPro) and installed Aperture in it. Started a brand new Aperture library. Then I exported, year by year, my old library. Aperture is running fast, without any glitches. I must admit I still mourn it as I use it, but at least I get to do what I need to to fast and effectively.

My big project for this year to come: print as many photo books my wallet permit. I recently printed 8 books through Aperture. Nothing really beats the feeling of looking at your photos on Paper (trust me, not even the retina display). I know at some point, years from now, this won't work. Hopefully by then a better migration path will be available.

Then I will decide where to go…

in my case Aperture was already obsolete since couple of years, I really need a lens correction tool, I was using DXO viewpoint but I don’t like to create tiff versions especially on very large jobs.
I’m testing C1 8 and waiting for Lr 6.
I don’t like Lr in many ways but it is mainstream, lots of filters and plugins.
C1 looks more like Aperture but I feel it is kind of slow.
I would like an Aperture X, oh well.

I don’t think there is a need to panic. I will try photos when it comes out, see if I like it. If it’s ok, or near enough to ok that it can be fixed with an update or two, I’ll probably use that.

I will probably keep using aperture for a while until photos gets to version 1.1 at least.
