I remember in one of Joseph’s videos he gave us a way to generate project names that I have used since. That went something like Date | explanatory name I have used this for all of my projects since. Since I use a referenced library I also structure my folders the same way. I downloaded Capture One Pro Trial today and discovered that I can’t import any of my folders because they contain the | character, which C1 doesn’t like.
Is there any other way to import the photos?
Automator will save your day! Launch Automator (from the Applications folder)
Select File -> New. Click on the Workflow icon -> Choose btn.
Along the left side under Library, click on Spotlight and in the resulting column select Spotlight and drag it onto the workspace at the right.
Go back to the column under Library and select Finder, then “Rename Finder items, Drag the Rename Finder items onto the workspace. You will get a popup alert - click on the Don’t Add btn unless you want to make duplicates.
The first dropdown menu- select Replace text. Find (type in the | here) in (select basename only) then Replace (type in “-” without the quotes)
Now back up in the top panel, you can Search for | in (select your directory that holds your Aperture folders)
Finally, hit the Run arrow at the top right of your workspace.
I suggest you test this out with a few fake|folders under a test fake folder to see how it works. Good luck.

Thanks Bill,
Do you know if I will then have to find the folders in Aperture after I make this change or because it was done in the OS Aperture will update the location of the referenced files?
Not sure. I would guess that Aperture will have to re-Locate the changed Folders. Maybe make small project to test. I’d hate to see you loose your hard work.

I believe that this is because Capture One uses the pipe as a delimiter for hierarchical keywords (also the > symbol).
