Sadly that report indicates that while some iPhoto capabilities will be restored, the more advanced Aperture features are NOT being worked on.

well, on the bright side, they did state that brushable was one of the features. Combining  brushable with the current levels tool with 8 control handles would be pretty powerful. The levels tool also has individual RGB channels so u can do all sorts of toning like split tone, etc. The report also states that the next version would bring Photos' feature on par to iphoto which had round-trip editing. for me, that means it would be easy to use with Affinity Photo.

I understand that the dam will not be any where on par with Aperture and i get that. However, i think users can do professional/prosumer work especially when combined with Affinity Photo, PS CC or Acorn 5.

If the rumors are true, i think it's good news. for me, if Apple added Stacks and RAW support on iOS side, i think that would be a very compelling solution. I could use PowerPhotos to export/import library and Affinity Photo for occasional super advance editing that require compositing, vectors or adjustments not in Photos.

Unfortunately it is just a rumor. We will find out what’s in store for Photos.app next month during WWDC I guess.

But I don’t have high hopes that we will receive all iPhoto features on all platforms. Brushes e.g. was a feature only in the iOS iPhoto app. And I doubt that Apple will add round-trip editing to the MacOS version of the app.

As I use Photos.app only as an addition to (still) Aperture and in the future CaptureOne, Aftershot, DxO or LR (meh), I’d be satisfied if Apple can achieve feature parity on all platforms, add new templates for photo books (with preview!)  and improve/expand Import/Export dialogue.

But I’m willing to being surprised by Apple. ;)
