Hi!
I’m trying to do something similar in Photos that I did in Aperture but it doesn’t seem to work. I used to import photos into Aperture as Projects by date, then I would move the photos in those Projects into my current Monthly Project, such as my April 2015 Project. When I did that the photos would disappear from the original Projects that they imported into. This way I knew I had moved everything current into my Monthly Project.
Well, in Photos when I create Monthly Albums, then move photos from the Photos section where all of the photos are gathered by Collections and Moments, they still stay in the main Photos view and don’t disappear so that I can know which ones I’ve moved. Obviously it’s just aliases in the Albums I’m creating. This sucks! How can I create albums similar to Projects so that I can be sure I’ve added everything I’ve shot for the current month into the Album and not be constantly wondering if I’ve moved photos into an Album yet or not? I’m using the full iCloud Photos feature where all of my Macs and iDevices sync with each other in the cloud. Has anyone figured out a way to do something similar with Albums as we were able to do with Projects? I’m at a loss as to how to make this work for me. I hope I’m making some sense to someone.
Okay, I feel kinda stupid now but I think I just solved my problem by creating Smart Albums using the date is in the range of criteria. This pulled all April photos, and will pull all May photos. Doh! I have watched all of Joseph’s videos so far, but if this was mentioned maybe it didn’t register. I have to say as an hobbyist, not professional, who uses only my iPhone camera now I’m very happy with Photos so far. I miss some things that I hope will come eventually like better sorting of photos, ratings, etc., but for the most part having all of my photos synced across all of my Macs and my iDevices is very cool.

This, I believe, is what was the main goal within Apple when creating OSX Photos. For that, they finally nailed it. We’re likely to get Plugins when OSX 10.11 is released. Oh, the new version of Photos (v1.1) doesn’t really add many new features. At least, not in the current beta, which is GM now.
