If there is one thing I loved in Aperture it was changing the File Name on Import so that Date/Time preceded the original file name.
That meant the files in Aperture were named
“2015-07-21 09:00:00 | IMG_2000”,
“2015-07-21 09:05:00 | 479A2903”
so photos of the same event were easily grouped together regardless of the camera used - and my wife and I sometimes use 4 when we travel!
Photos doesn’t allow this of course and now that I’m about to move to Photos I’m tossing up whether to preprocess photos in an app like PhotoMill to change the File Name so that when they are imported into Photos I have the same convenience I’ve had in the past… or should I let that File Naming idea go and just Import into Photos?
I’m interested in others experiences since so many have come from Aperture.
Hi. I too used that feature. I’m glad to say that there is a rename feature built into OS X. In a finder window select the images and right click. In that menu there is a “rename” feature with numerous options. I tend to rename across four bodies to this format - yyyy-mm-text-index where text represents the event. The yyyy and mm can, optionally come direct from the image date but also could manually form part of the “text”. Hope this helps.
Appreciate your quick response - great idea!
