I am a bit mixed up. How come I cannot create a project within a folder or how come I cannot transfer photos from a project to a subfolder within that project. Is there some place where I could read about the file structure of Aperture?

Remember that the actual photo file is “stored” in a project. There’s no reason not to be able to create projects inside folders. You cannot move a file to a bare folder - create an album within that folder first.

Here’s a good ebook about it all:

Joseph has one, too:

Pierre,

Projects can be created within folders and dragged into folders, so that shouldn’t be a problem. Sometimes users get confused on what you can drag where; check out this conversation and the links within that to hopefully help understand.

As far as truly grocking the file structure, please check out “ApertureExpert’s 15 Tips on File Management in Aperture 3” and “In-Depth Getting Started with Aperture 3” or if you prefer video, there’s lots of video training available in the Aperture training store as well.
