I am considering purchasing a Nikon D800 with 36MP. My concern is, will Aperture be able to handle RAW 72MP file?

karemi2,

As long as you have a modern Mac, I don’t see it being a problem. “Handle” is different than “scream” though, and you may not have the fastest editing experience ever, especially with brushes, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

When you said “file size 72MP” did you mean 72MB? The camera makes a 36MP (megapixel) image, but I’m not sure where the 72 is coming from?

Well My 21 mb canon 1ds markIII (Joseph’s camera as well) exports a 16bit tif file out of Aperture around 126mb. I do further edits and layers in PS before collapsing all layers and taking it down to 8 bit for delivery. After editing in PS I re-import them into Aperture at 126mb and have done further edits in Aperture with no problem. Big debate as to editing in 8 bit or 16 after Apertures raw processing, maybe over kill, but Im use to it now. Oh yea I have 8mgs ram on MBP 17”
