Backing up with Vault #1

As a reasonably new aperture user I would like to try and confirm if my proposal for using multiple vault backups is sensible. Can I back up say 2013 projects as a managed vault file and then move the managed photos for 2013 to referenced photos and still keep the original saved managed photos as the vault backup. Assuming I don’t create a new 2013 backup, my assumption is that I have a recoverable copy of originals available in the event of a PC crash and I can keep a separate 2014 vault backup for this years photos. Am I understanding the vault options correctly.

You can have multiple Vaults and they can be named differently.  A vault will only store images if they are Managed images, that is in the lib.  Im not sure what or why you want to do this.  The  important thing IMHO is deciding where you want your images in the lib or Referenced.  Then back up accordingly, and make multiple backups of that,  Remember  With Reference you need to back up two things: Lib and Images.
