when I want to rate my pictures with my number keys (above the letters), the software does not let me doing it … it makes a sound as if i cannot do the operation. I find it weird, since I was able to do it in the past. the rating of the pictures using the drop down menu works.

It sounds like the wrong pane is in “focus”. Click on a photo in the thumbnail view to ensure it’s selected, and try again. You may want to just relaunch the application as well.

Hm, I wonder if somehow your keyboard shortcut presets got changed.
Go to menu Aperture > Commands > Defaults and see if it works. If it is already at Default, we’ll try something else.

Thanks, It worked. For one reason or an other, the keyboard was set to French instead of English. As soon as I put it back to English, it worked.
