Changing "Date and Time" of RAW+JPEG masters #1

I have noticed lack of symmetry in adjusting date and time of photos using RAW+JPEG masters.

Using JPEG Master (of RAW+JPEG pair):
- Aperture > Metadata > Adjust Date and Time…
- Check “also change original files”
- Aperture > Metadata > Update from Original (JPEG Master shows updated date/time)
- Aperture > Photos > Use Raw as Original
- Aperture > Metadata > Update from Original (RAW Master shows updated date/time)

Using RAW Master (of RAW+JPEG pair):
- Aperture > Metadata > Adjust Date and Time…
- Check “also change original files”
- Aperture > Metadata > Update from Original (RAW Master shows updated date/time)
- Aperture > Photos > Use JPEG as Original
- Aperture > Metadata > Update from Original (JPEG Master shows old & incorrect date/time)

I've been updating Time/Date metadata extensively on a huge scanning project that I have completed… and noticed the above issue. Beware if you have put a lot of time adjusting metadata and subsequently have a need to switch from RAW to JPEG masters.

I was rushed (catching a flight) when writing my previous post.

In summary:

When using JPEG as master… the metadata is changed for both the JPEG and also the RAW. I think this is the desired behavior.

By contrast… when using RAW as the master… the metadata is only changed for the RAW image… and the JPEG image is left unchanged. This is a problem if you later change your master to JPEG… as the time/date metadata changes are lost.
