Hey folks! If you can't post in your own forum, where can you post ;-)

I've heard that the filters you see in Photos on iOS 8 are something that developers can add on to… does anyone know if that's true? Is this an open API? I don't recall hearing that before, and on the Photos webpage http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/photos/ it says “App developers can also make their filters and editing tools accessible in the Photos app”, which is not the same as having your own filters just show up in the list.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but let's be sure…

Yes. Remember the developer videos from WWDC showing core image filters and core image raw filters. These APIs are open to all developers and are what make the potential so great for Photos.

Thanks Walter. But is that to show up under the filters list, like this?

Those are the effects/filters I'm referring to. Keeping in mind that, at least to-date, those can not be adjusted. They aren't presets, they are just on/off filters.

AFAIK - I have to check this though - there is no public API to add custom CIFilters there. So it is possible to create your own CIFilters and use them e.g. in your Photo Extensions, but they will not be offered in this effects list.

Yeah, that's what I expect. But by all means if you find otherwise, let me know!!
