Anyone care to guess why Apple changed major version number with this update? Is it because of Mavericks?

Well if I was not the curmudgeon I am I would say it was because the OS RAW decode engine for Mavericks has been completely rewritten for Mavericks and we’ll all have Aperture 4.0 by Christmas.
If anyone has Mavericks running side by side with 10.8.x a side by side comparison with the same image in Preview would be interesting …
