When brushing in edge sharpening, I've had aperture “freeze up” on several occasions. Does anyone else have this problem and if so, how to prevent it. This only happens with this brick.

Sounds like a ‘delete preferences’ job. Make sure you can reinstate your preferences - eg what the coulored blobs stand for, any key shortcuts - before you do this.
Also I’ve seen something recently in this forum about the preferences no longer being where they used to be - I’ll leave you to unearth that.
