I read this post http://www.kremalicious.com/2008/08/howto-create-a-mobile-encrypted-aper… about how to store your vault inside an encrypted disc image. My main editing station is now a macbookPro. I replaced the dvd drive with a second 1tb drive which is dedicated for my aperture library file. I'd like to place my .aplibrary on this drive inside a protected disc image should my computer ever get stolen. Anybody have suggestions on best settings to use when creating the encrypted disc image that won't compromise the speed of Aperture? Anybody have reservations on storing the .aplibrary file in a .sparsebundle file outlined in the article above?

An encrypted dmg should not have any effect on your library access speed. It has to be unencrypted before you can use it and it is simply mounted on the Desktop like any other drive (which is how the OS sees it). Don’t loose the password, because you can throw your library away if you do.
