I am running Aperture on both my iMac and MacBook Air. On iMac, I have many custom export settings and I would like to have the identical set on my MacBook Air. Could anyone suggest how to accomplish that?

Thanks

Jan

Jan,

It’s easy to sync any settings you like in Aperture, unfortunately it’s not always consistent in how it’s done.

1. Preferences can be synced via MobileMe. If you choose to sync Preferences in the MobileMe > Sync pane, then those will be synchronized. This does affect your entire system though, and there’s no way to choose app-by-app what gets synced. I used to leave this off, but recently have been leaving it on and working around some of the oddities (non-Aperture related).

2. Many settings can be exported/imported, such as keyboard commands and keywords. Easy then to export from one system and import into another.

3. For the last set, the one’s you’re looking for, it’s a manual process. From your user folder, to go ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture and you’ll see all the .plist files you need, such as Export Presets.plist. Unfortunately these do NOT sync when you have MobileMe syncing turned on; that apparently only syncs preferences in the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder.

Joseph - awesomeness! Thank you. I do have Mobile Me, but since my MBA and iMac are used for different things, syncing all settings would do more harm than good. However, your tip #3 work like a charm! Thank you - awesome website!!!!!
