What is the best way to import photos. I have over 500 photos to import and I want they in 'smart folders' under my project. Don't know if it's best to pick each one out (check them) and name the Smart Folder I want them to go into before I import, or import all of them and put them in the Smart Folder. How would I do this after import?
Thanks for anyones help…..

Let’s clear up some terminology first…there isn’t a “smart folder” concept in Aperture. There are Folders, used to contain or group together other related containers, but there’s nothing “smart” about them…the contents of folders are manually managed. You can import into a new project or existing project that is contained by a folder, but again there’s nothing “smart” about it (with one exception…during import you can “auto split” into projects based on a set of predefined time periods specified in preferences).

But there are “smart albums” and maybe that’s what you are referring to? Assuming that, there isn’t a way to import directly into a smart album. The contents of smart albums are based on a set of criteria you specify when you create a new Smart Album, or in the Filter dialog (accessed by ⌘-F, or Find in the Edit menu).

So to do what I think you want, first import everything into a project, then create your smart albums under that project.
