They say that Photos isnt for the Aperture users, but more for the Iphot users.  But what exactly do I miss in Photos, compared to Aperture?

Today I use these features:

  • Folders, with projects, albums and smart albums
  • stars, labels and flags
  • keywords
  • faces
  • referenced media with no preview, to save disc space
  • Stacks
  • Databased media management, so each version of a photo refere to the master
  • Adjusting white balance
  • exposure
  • enhancing
  • sharpening edges
  • Colors
  • levels and curves
  • Crop
  • brushes
  • batch changing
  • slideshows

This was from the top of my head.

what exactly is lost in photos?

Can i download the beta now?

Here’s the survivors in your list:

  • albums and smart albums
  • flags
  • keywords
  • faces
  • Adjusting white balance
  • exposure
  • enhancing
  • sharpening edges
  • Colors
  • Crop
  • slideshows

But note that many of these features behave differently and in some cases are very limited compared to Aperture.

You can’t download a beta of Photos… it’s built-in to Yosemite 10.10.3 and there isn’t a public beta of 10.10.3 available at this time. But if you are a member of Apple’s developer program you can access it.

Thank you so much.

I will keep working in Aperture, but I`m kind of concerned. At some point I have to migrate, and I`m not very keen on swallowing the Adobe pill.
