I don’t understand the question. Which folder are you talking about? A folder in the library pane? Or a folder in the Finder for a referenced library? Or by folder do you really mean “Project”? Do you want to know which Project a particular image is in?
Ron: if you go to the info tab / general: at the bottom of this tab ( just above title) there is a heading named: PROJECTPATH. This should show you exactly where a selected image is.
Tom, Yes the question is a bit messy. I want to find which Project a particular file is in. I search for the image in Photos and the image I searched for shows in Viewer. How do find out which folder holds that image?

Aperture has a metadata field named Project Name. Add that field to a metadata display somewhere convenient and see it there.
