Multiple Version Names on import #1

I’m new to Aperture. Watched ApertureExpert 101 & 102 on importing files and am using Joseph’s suggested custom name preset and applying this to imported files. However, I returned from a trip and on import Aperture has grouped the photos by day  so that I have:

2014-06-20 | Portugal; 2014-06-20 | Portugal 2”; etc.

This is how I want it and how I’ve set it up in import preferences, but is there a quick way to choose a custom text name for each  group of photos? When I type a name in “Name text” under rename file this is applied to all photos in each Portugal 1,. 2, etc. I’d like to rename each group (day’s) photos with a custom text name.

Do I have to select only the photos from each day and type in a specific name in “Name test”, import, and then do again with the next day’s photos? Or would the best way be to import and then change the name on each group of photos?
