I’m afraid I have to give up Photos now. How do I get everything to Lightroom? Can I get there straight from Photos or do I need to go back to Aperture? 

I’m also planning to use an external hard drive connected via Thunderbolt and use that hard drive on iMac and MacBook pro. Just too much not working with cloud storage and professional workflow.
