Pointing existing Library to images referenced in identical backup with different HD name #1

1. 4 year Aperture user. I’ve been storing my imported images in an external RAID, separate from the Library (which is on my boot drive). It is time to replace the RAID drives (2).

How can I point my existing Library to the new RAID drive, which is identical but has a new name? E.G., the original referenced images the library on my boot drive expects to connect with are on an external disk named “ORF”, and the identical drive I need to point it to is named “SAM”.

2. I keep the Aperture Library on my desktop boot disk and back it up via Time Machine. The Library points to images in the external RAID, and that is regularly backed up to another disk. Am I doing something wrong by not keeping the LIbrary in the same disk as the referenced (original) files?

Aperture Library is 65GB.

RAID drive with originals and versions is about 460GB.

Aperture 3.4.5

Thanks for any insights you can provide.

OK, so I read in FAQ that I should rename the new HD to the name the Library wants to see.

So, I option-click on the mounted drive I wish to rename and choose “Rename Drive”?

Yes, that works. Sorry to be dense. I’ve had great luck with HD’s and haven’t had to change them in 4 years.
