Im looking for a way to quickly scan paper photos from this scanner (or any for that matter) directly into Aperture? It seems possible for iPhoto, but I've not found a way to do it with Aperture.
Thanks for any help.

Simply set up a profile in the ScanSnap manager that scans to Aperture. When you scan a photo the profile will invoke Aperture’s “Import PDF” dialog where you can choose JPEG as the format.

One thing I’ve noticed is that if Aperture isn’t already running it will want to put the file into an “Untitled Project”. If Aperture is running it will allow you to select the project.

Regarding other scanners, if they talk to Image Capture (ScanSnap’s don’t) then you can scan to Aperture from Image Capture.

Update….

If you set up the ScanSnap profile to output JPEG’s, then Aperture seems to always want to put the scanned JPEGs into a new “Untitled Project”. It’s not a big deal since it can be easily managed after you are done scanning a batch of photos. And there might be a way around it, but haven’t had time to test all the options yet.

You could also gain some more control by setting up a Folder Action in Automator that would import the scanned image files.
