I’d wager that the metadata view has simply been disabled/hidden.
Tap the Y key while in the Viewer or Split view to toggle metadata on and off for the Viewer (the larger images), and tap the U key to do the same for the Thumbnails.
You can toggle between basic and advanced views by tapping Shift-U and Shift-Y.
You can also view these commands under the menu View > Metadata Display.
Let me know if that solves the problem!
