With multiple post processing software is there a best practices for keeping track of which software did what? I make multiple adjustments in Aperture then often do more processing in software such as Photomatix, OnOne, etc., or add someone elses presets. I have tried color coding, keyword, and others coding, but after a very short period of time I can not recreate the changes and the coding becomes very complex.

Ansel Adams use to have a note book and pages for every image he made. Dodging burning , dipping corners in hot developer, chemistry type, etc.

Today those notes could be added to your metadata! so they go with each file. The problem is the “habit of good note taking” is hard. While in the process of creativity short hand often is used and then weeks or hours later its hard to remember exactly what that short hand means. Ansel had a form to fill out so he didnt miss any detail and drew a picture of the dodging and burning. Cheers
