Where to go from here.... #1

I recently upgraded my camera and now shoot a Nikon D7100.  I had a shoot with difficult lighting and shot them raw+jpeg.  Good thing for the latter.  Aperture 3.2.4 does not read Nikon D7100 NEF files. Import, yes, read no.

I don’t want to upgrade.  3.2.4 suits me.  The Camera Raw update is not usable by 3.2.4, or so Apple claims.  (No explanation.)

So I am looking for a workflow that will allow me to continue.

I was thinking of the following:

1.  Disable automatic import.

2.  Mount the Nikon as a drive, or use a card reader.

3.  Convert the NEF files to DNG.

4.  Import the DNG files.

If I shoot Raw + jpeg, will Aperture figure out that the two files are linked?

Other gotchas?

You should move to 3.6

There is no reason not to do so.

If you shoot RAW File plus JPGs then during import you can specify if you want to see the two files as separate files im Aperture.

Best regards, Alex

3.6 requires Yosemite.  Apple keeps changing the user interface, and it takes me a couple weeks to recreate my working environment.

I can keep the files linked, apply my edits only once.  You can choose whether the jpg or the raw is considered master.
