My Final Cut Pro X workflow is very refined, using a series of custom effects presets and reusable assets. Can a live show be edited and swapped out for the original livestream? If so, will the original comments and url be preserved?
No. It's one of the big bummers of YouTube. You can sort-of edit a show using the YouTube trim tool but all is really good for is cutting off the beginning (like a long countdown)
When do you add transitions? If you add transitions, how do you decide that a transition is needed or not?
