Hi im new to Aperture. Am i correct in believing that i can import pictures from iphone/camera onto an aperture library on my internal HD. Then, when the HD is full create a new library (archive) on an external drive. Then import the internal HD library- together using the merge/add library command and then deleting the aperture library from the internal HD using the finder?
I ran a test using this process and found that i had no problems until i deleted the aperture library (240 gb) internal hardrive had reduced the 1.5tb on the external to a mere 36gb. The external HD appears to have the right amount of data on it though.
I have a vast library and want to use the program in a logical way.
All help welcome!
If your internal HD Library is managed, you can exit Aperture and use Finder to drag-n-drop the Library from your internal HD to an external HD. Once the Finder copy is done, delete the internal HD Library with Finder and empty your Trash. The next time you start Aperture it will not find the internal HD Library and thus ask you if you want to create a new one.
If you are trying to use a Library on an external HD as an archive, adding your internal HD Library work over time, then open the external HD Library and import the Library from the internal HD. That will merge the internal HD Library into the external HD Library. You can then use Finder to delete the internal HD Library, and then inside Aperture you can select File > Switch to Library > Other/New… to create a new internal HD Library.
