Hi, I work for a local news channel where they have three Blackmagic Studio Cameras, one Blackmagic Studio Camera 2, all conected trough SDI to a ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K switch, which uses the ATEM Switchers software. I recently got in charge of the production area, so I did a thorough review of all the equipment and functionality, and for some reason the Resolve wheels on the switcher software doesn't work, I don't know why, also, I don't find any video or white paper on how to connect the tally light and enable the talkback functionality, I guess another SDI cable is needed, which I tried to connect but got no positive results, only a locked iris while the SDI cable was connected. Can you please provide me with extra information this matters and point me in the right direction?

I though a firmware update could be the issue, but I don't find any white paper or video online explaining how to check the firmware version and apply any new firmware in both, the cameras and the ATEM.

Also, does this equipment have a license of DaVinci Resolve? Thank you in advance.
@@gAlbert23500 thank you!
Joseph -- I totally agree with others who commented ... you put in a lot more that 5 hours of work into this work effort;
- I'm quite familiar, with the ATEM Studio HD, Web Presenter & HyperDeck plan to share your presentation with my previous church and others in my circle of circles
- very good content.

This is a great video thank you for taking the time to do this. One question, you may have answered in the video. If I have the Atem pro iSO, where there is one usb port. If I want to stream and record iso at the same time, would the recording save on the computer I am using to stream? Or does the recording only work with an ssd or hard drive?
It’s one or the other. Only the Extreme models have dual usb ports so can do both simultaneously. The intention is that you stream from the ATEM directly and record to SSD.
My SDI version has 2 outputs, could I use one of the outputs to input as webcam therefore reserving my usb to record?
Hello, i've watched part 1 of MasterClass. I will ofcourse watch all of them, but i want to ask if it is possible to replace my macbook with an ipad to load ATEM software control.
My plan is to built a case and fit everything inside ( Atem mini pro + 7" monitor + ipad).
No, the ATEM software control doesn’t run on iOS or iPadOS. However if you want to control an ATEM from an iPad, look at MixEffect on iPad. It’s fantastic.
Great videos! Thanks! If we're just using the ATEM Mini Pro Iso (not extreme), since it only has 1 usb-c output, how can we record to an external harddrive while simultaneously outputting the ATEMs output as a webcam?
Great video. Have you also created a video where you explain how to crop the screen for showing an iPad screen without the black bars?
You can crop in the key; there are crop sliders. some ATEMs have scale up as well so you can fill the Screen. If not then you just have to live with the black or pure something behind it
I was just wondering, do you plan on doing a Master Class for the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K or HD?
No, because the tech is the same across all units. For the most part, all ATEMs are the same; the bigger ones just have more of everything!!
Your content is amazing. How can I give $ as a lump sum? Say through Apple Pay
Joseph great video man ! I need help whats the simple way to have a video playback ok the atem pro iso?
A computer or an iPad is easiest
quick question about using the hyperdeck... is it possible to use one hyperdeck controlled by 2 different atems ? I have two atems for two different setups and would like to use one hyperdeck for both.. can you play via only ethernet ( and not hdmi out ) ? thanks!
@@photojoseph thanks! still learning and I'm coming from a non-video background. I have a hyperdeck studio mini ( non hd ) that i'm going to be using for key/fill. I didn't realize i need a bunch of sdi to hdmi converters, etc to hook it up... I was hoping this device would play multiple streams over the internet, all hooked up via the atem. but maybe that is for the future!

and now because you've shown me all the cool things i can do with an extreme, i think my mini pro iso is not going to to cut anymore! ugh... thanks.. :)
Video does not play out over Ethernet. You can enter the IP for the same HyperDeck in both ATEMs, and they shouldn’t conflict, however to play to both you’d need an HDMI splitter.
thanks Gary to talking about balanced vs unbalanced audio.. that was really helpful!
Awesome, I’ll let him know!
Red/Green international safety standards were explained to me during a factory tour once. Red means danger/in use and green means safe to touch/handle. Think of a valve on a pipe containing super heated steam and it all makes sense.
perfect
Does it have a green screen removal
yes, that's "chroma key".
Great vedio thsnks
thanks
Thanks for this great video.

If I use sony a7siii to record internally, could I later bring it to davinci resolve and use it instead of the braw and will davinci be able to swap those files with the 1080 resolution from the atem mini extreme iso? What is the best way to accomplish this since I don't have BMPCC? Thank you!
@@jimpiterson4052 BMPCC are very convenient if they meet the rest of your needs. I use BGH1 for my setup; the camera control is far superior but through an all, not the ATEM. I don’t need internal recording however if I were building a business around live streaming for clients I’d definitely use BMPCC cameras.
@@photojoseph Makes perfect sense. I am kind of a snob myself 😀! lol. By the way, on my use case, you would not use the BMPCC, correct? I think the answer is no, but since you are an expert on this, wanted to "hear" your opinion.

Thanks Joseph, your input has been valuable.
@@jimpiterson4052 1080p vs 4K for YouTube is very much up to you and your content. A LOT of YT is just 1080p. I’m dedicated to 4K but I’m a snob ☺️ It largely depends on the actual content and how your potential audience is most likely to consume it.
@@photojoseph Thanks so much for your response. I need to continuous autofocus of the sonys (2 cams) and was actually considering the BMPCCs instead, but the lack of autofocus would affect me since I need to go from the back of my desk (standing up) to the a few feet back to write on my interactive panel while I am teaching (that's my 2nd angle). That's back and forth so you can imagine how the lack of autofocus on the BMPCCs would affect me.

The reason I share that with you is to give you perspective on my last question (and thank you in advance). For a youtube videos, do you think that the 1080p out of the iso files from the atem mini would render a good quality?

The youtube channel will be about coaching and personal development.

Thank you!!!
It won’t reconnect. The timecode would have to be identical and there’s no way to make that happen. You’ll just have to re-edit.
This video is amazing and I am learning much! I am new at this, does the ATEM board essentially eliminate the need for a hardware encoder?
Every ATEM Mini model from the ATEM Mini Pro on up has a built in encoder.
thanks for all your videos!

i have 3 cameras/multi angles and a laptop as inputs for my Mini ISO. i have one giant green screen and use the laptop with a looping video to fill the green screen. i realize i can set up macros to switch the key source but it's a hard cut/no transition. is there a work around you know of get a mix transition to work while switching cameras while using green screen? i tried with OBS, too but couldn't figure out a way to make it work. thanks!

i would think this something everyone would want to do. why is there no info on the net? i found one piece of software for this purpose but it's Windows only.
@@photojoseph wow! The video I posted just above in these comments!
@@freakyrandy did I watch… I made that video. The 5 hour training? That’s me, mate.
@@photojoseph did you watch the video above? I want to do that except on a Mac.
I don’t really understand what you’re trying to achieve but macros are there to combine steps. I don’t know why you’d go out of your way to not use the tool that’s provided.
Have you come across a full buffer while trying to stream on a fast Internet connection?

I tested the ethernet connection on a computer. No problems. When plugging the ethernet cable hey into the atem mini, the stream quality was set to 5mbps. The bigger quickly filled up.

To solve this, we used the exact same ethernet cable and plugged it into a second atem, which was basically the encoder, whereas the first atem was doing all the switching. In other words, we used an HDMI program output and went into the second atem, which I'm turn was streaming.

What caused the first atem to run out of buffer?
@@SunriseWaterMedia hmm, try a new key to a new destination? You’re sure it has a valid IP address? Can you access the ATEM over the network (not USB)
@@photojoseph It was set to YouTube, with the correct stream key. It's a mystery, and quite worrisome!
@@SunriseWaterMedia most likely streaming destination. There aren’t many things to check
@@photojoseph Oh ok. Can you point me in the direction of where to find configuration settings to check?
Something wasn’t configured correctly. If the buffer fills immediately and you know you have good internet, then it’s a configuration issue.
Minute 1:50 Picle Pickle Pickle, S-h-it Picle! was that a cinemassacre reference? I know he said tickle.
Hi I been watching your videos tutorials and it helped me to learn a lot about atem mini pro and stream deck. I have a question when I change my atem mini pro camera with stream deck using companion app the transition is hard cut it don’t have that effect of smooth transition. Can you help me with that. Thank you
Think through how it happens in the ATEM. You don't just "dissolve". You have your PROGRAM (what's currently on-air), and you set the PREVIEW to whatever you want to be on-air next, then you set up the transition style (MIX, WIPE, etc) and the DURATION, then you hit the AUTO button to make it happen. In anything other than a hard cut, you build whatever you want to have next on air in the PREVIEW, then you AUTO from the PREVIEW to the PROGRAM. Same in Stream Deck, although to be honest it is probably easier than that — I just don't usually do dissolves and am not in front of it now so can't tell you for sure.
Hello and congratulations for the very long and complete tutorial, I admit that I have not yet had the opportunity to see it all, if possible I would like some suggestions regarding the cameras to be combined with the atem mini.
I saw that you made a video on the Lumix DC-BGH1 but I would prefer to use the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4k for a matter of price and because they are directly controllable from the atem mini software. I would like to know which zoom lens to combine with the poket cinema cameras and if for example the inexpensive H-PS14042E LUMIX Powerzoom 14-42mm f / 3.5-5.6 would allow me to control all the parameters from the software such as zoom and focus and exposure, thank you. Sorry my english i'm italian :)

Ps. What do you think of the ptz camera of canon for example?
Here’s a video I did on power zoom lenses https://youtu.be/WJno7WB6V28 and I think the Canon quality isn’t great from what I’ve seen, although the camera control (not through the ATEM) is pretty great.
I hope you can help me out… I am looking to purchase the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO and a hyperdeck, can I play a video with an alpha key, such as an animated lower third graphic, using atem mini extreme and the hyperdeck? My concern is the ATEM Mini doesn’t support the SDI inputs needed. And can inuse a hyperdeck HD Studio Mini or do I need the HD Studio Plus?
@@pbellajr any of the HyperDecks
@@photojoseph Many thanks! Also, will it work with the hyperdeck mini or will I need the plus?
Yes you can. You’ll need two SDI to HDMI converters as well (the new MBD 3G minis are about $50 each). Any of the HyperDecks will do it.
I've got a question about ATEM Mini Pro audio inputs and streaming out to YouTube Twitter, etc. I have a streaming partner but want to stream out of ATEM to one of the others....can you explain how I'd do that. I'm using a MacBook Pro to stream to my partners service, so I want to also stream to another platform. My partner doesn't allow for me to have 2 locations through their service. Thank you!
@@TennesseeSportsNet yes — whatever the Program is, will go out both the HDMI (for your conversion to your partner platform) as well as the built-in streaming encoder. There’s only one Program.
@@photojoseph the audio
@@photojoseph sorry. just wanted to make sure if I connect a mix to the ATEM input 1, it would also reach the YouTube output without doing anything else
Not sure what the complication is. Just set the ATEM to stream to youtube and enter the key. You’re not doing anything fancy here, just streaming to youtube using the built in encoder, right?
Many live streamers are using the Roadcaster Pro as a mixer to Atem. A tutorial on that duet might be nice!
I’ll consider that, thanks!
No wi-Fi is fine, but I would love to see Bluetooth capability for control from IOS.
That would be cool but the hardware definitely doesn’t have Bluetooth
For the camera control settings, are you able to at minimum use the color correction section for any HDMI source, or will the color part only work with BMD cameras…? I’m hoping the color correction does it within the software and not the hardware, that way you can use that section with any camera

BBEdit - is there an equivalent for windows?
The color controls are in the camera. The hardware can’t do custom looks on each input. That’d require a massive amount of power. As for BBEdit; you’ll have to google that sorry.
In reference to creating macros, I was pulling my hair out trying to get rid of the "flicker"- you did a great job of both showing how to get rid of it and pulling the curtain back on how it works!
I had the same issue and this was really helpful to figure it out... switch the input source last!
Also, thanks for being a member! Welcome!
Awesome, thanks! I actually have an old dedicated video on that… https://youtu.be/Rk0ZX0UvgKg
I have a question for you: I have a client wanting to render in DaVinci Resolver for Pre-Multiplied (Alpha Channel) Graphics from a PC (Windows) to use in the New HyperDeck Studio HD Plus starting their live streams in February. They want to use that free version and it looks like the Windows Davinci has no Pro-Res, I tested DaVinci rendering on my PC (not a DaVinci User only Adobe) Found DNxHD will work for videos on the HyperDeck but there is no pre-multiplied options at any codec with it. None of my other DaVinci Codec Alpha renders will play only yet some will show up in the HyperDeck Media Player list? So the card reads it but it will not play. Any Ideas... I have not heard back from BMD but did email them..
Hm, I don’t really have an answer. I have no idea which codecs support alpha other than ProRes 4444. If the PC studio version supports that then they should just pay for it. I never understood people who will pay thousands for hardware but refuse to pay for software!
Wow!!! Congratulations for this video... It help me a lot!!! Totally grateful!!... One question which is driven me crazy... We often do streaming in mountain trail... so I need to figure out how can I use go pro's remote and bring them to atem (maybe through rtmp).. any ideas I would really appreciate a lot!! Have a happy new year and again THANKS from Spain!!

Hey Joesph what a fantastic video.

Whilst I love recording audio using the atem.

Would there be anything against me recording external audio into a program like Audacity and then syncing it in post production?
@@ChristosFellas I don’t think the video spec matters for audio, meaning just because it’s h.264, that doesn’t dictate the audio frequency. Do a test at 44.1 and another at 48 and compare them!
Specs read it records h.264 mp4 with aac audio, I believe I would need 44.1 to match that if I’m correct?
Not a problem, BUT the frequency matters. I don’t recall (or know if it’s even published) if the ATEM records at 44.1 or 48 but if you record externally you’ll need to match that or you’ll experience audio drift. I would do a test recording of an hour long, recording a clap at the start and end, then make sure they line up in post (record audio both in the ATEM and in your software). Please let us know what you learn!

Nearly everything shown here works on the 2 M/E, but I don’t have videos dedicated to the 2 M/E
Could you do a tutorial on how you would do this tutorial on the Atem Mini Extreme ISO?

There are several techniques in this training I'd like to incorporate into my workflow.
Nearly everything here applies to any ATEM Mini model
At the 3:23 mark, how are you showing slides on the screen during the live stream? It looks like you're using an iPad Pro but you're not attached to a dongle. Could you explain this setup?
I talk about it later — it’s an AirPlay receiver
Could you talk about the earpiece you're using to communicate with people off-camera?
Just a wireless monitor! https://geni.us/WU2AgsV
You should at least put pre-roll skippable and non-skippable ads on this video because they don't interrupt the user while they are watching the video. Can't Youtube run ads even if you do not select Monetization?
No they can’t. If you’re enjoying the video and learning something from it, please consider joining! YouTube.com/PhotoJoseph/join
this was awesome. thx for that
amazing resource, will be subscribing. re: the cheapest camera with clean HDMI and mic ports - I'm using a Canon Vixia HF R800 (and also an older Canon Vixia HF R400) which ticks both boxes under $400 each. In fact, I got my HF R400 used for $120 Canadian. They work with my ATEM Mini Extreme ISO.
@@photojoseph had em running into the atem for six hours straight yesterday to test. It's in my house so I don't know how it'd fare in a hotter environment, but they were warm and not hot so they could probably survive a bit hotter
That’s great to hear. I’d heard the cheaper Canon cameras overheated or the mirror had to be put back down after 30 minutes. Is that not the case with this model?
Lol - the part where you demo the iso recording and bmpcc hdmi communication fails is classic blackmagic. And the icing on the cake: the blackmagic rep there for support just shrugged it off saying he was busy with other things and didn’t see anything.

Good grief - as an atem and and bmpcc user, I felt this one. Just gave a slow, knowing nod of “yep - I know this feeling all too well”
@@omgMBP what switcher would you recommend that's more expensive while increasing reliability?
@@photojoseph Fair enough. My personal experience with my BMD stuff is that it's amazing value for money - right up until the moment it fails you and costs you everything. This was an excellent example validating that concern.

Great seminar, by the way - still working through it. I'm finding the information about the streaming bridge - particularly the xml file export - quite interesting and a potentially great option for mailing a remote kit to clients.
yeah, that one hurt. But ultimately it's a good thing to see, that not everything works as expected all the time! DEFINITELY you need to check your cameras!!
Just wow! Thank you for a wonderful master class! I have an audio question, when using a camera with mic plugged into Atem Mini and zooming with client, the client hears an echo - their voice coming back to them also this happened in your class when you switched to pocket camera. How do I resolve this?
@@melmetcalfeiii7889 using headphones is going to be the best solution.
@@melmetcalfeiii7889 turn down your external speakers and/or make sure echo cancelation is enabled in Zoom and/or use headphones instead of speakers
@@photojoseph Thank you for the quick reply! Hmm people on zoom are still hearing an echo. My complete set up: Shot gun mic connected to camera and plugged into Atem Mini, Atem connected to iMac through usb and external speakers connected to headphone port on iMac. No other mic in the room...
ah, the fact you heard it when I switched to the pocket camera is a great clue — that means you (as I was for a moment) feeding TWO audio streams. Both audio from the camera's built-in mic, as well as audio from the external mic. So, look at your audio panel, and make sure you are only using the mic you want!
Is there any information out there as to whether Loupedeck hardware works with the item at all?
not that I know of
This is GREAT, brother. THANKS for doing this.
You are welcome, my friend!
How are you splitting out the line out from your audio (zoom f6?) to all of your cameras ? I am trying to avoid adding frame delays or messing with that if possible.
@@photojoseph I was under the impression that from the line out of your mixpre3, you would need to split the signal out to each of the cameras mic input jack (on the camera itself) so that the cameras video will remain in sync with the audio to avoid delays. However, if I am understanding correctly, All I would need to do is send the line out from the mixpre3 (or whatever audio recording device) into the mic input on the Atem, and all the cameras will sync fine. Is that correct? Thanks for your help!
Do you mean for live or for recording? Live; I’m not pulling audio from each camera. The audio (going into a MixPre3) goes into the XLR input on my ATEM and gets picked up from there. But also for my recordings, that same Program audio goes to each Aux output so they all get the same audio on each HyperDeck .
Hi, great video! What was the name of the HDMI wireless dongle you used for connecting the iPad to the ATEM?
Here you go Richard and Piotr — I covered it in this video https://youtu.be/ZpFtmmmRPig — it’s called a MiraScreen, link in description.
Would like to know this too
thanks for video i user youtube premium
Right on
Love the pro and extreme, one important thing to mention when watching videos on the ISO version is that you have to use BMPCC to do the ISO recordings ... correct?... yes you do get an edited program file , but not individual files from " Generic" HDMI cameras in my case Sony's....I purchased the ISO thinking I could do that , only to be disappointed that I couldn't ..don't get me wrong , its still an awesome product, just wished they ( you tube videos) would have made it clear that you need BMPCC for this feature..
That is not correct. You will get ISO streams and an editable XML file from ANY camera/input (remember in this demo I had the iPad connected, and we saw its ISO in the edit). The only advantage of the BMPCC cameras is you get BRAW files to match back to. Watch this video to see the ISO in use with zero BMPCC cameras: https://youtu.be/vwPH4l5R-dw
I see you got a few more subscribers to your channel since I posted this video on the Facebook Atem Group. I'm hoping it doubles! 😊

@@photojoseph PlayoutBee is software that was developed to turn your Raspberry Pi into a Hyperdeck. It shows up in the ATEM Control Software just like a Hyperdeck and you can write Macros to access it as well.

The Apple TV is great for using Airplay from any Apple device you may have, for something like sharing screens. Also does quite a good job of turning an iPhone into a wireless video, without very much latency.
