I just put the finishing touches on two new preset packs! I’ll add them to the store later, but for now, those of you who just happen to stroll by here can get ‘em right away!

Looks #2

The first is the long-awaited “Looks #2” pack. The original Looks pack is still the most popular one, and this expands on that. Some presets from the first pack have been tweaked and improved, and there are some completely new ones as well. There’s a small sample set below.

Split Tones

The second pack is a series of split tones. What are split tones, you ask? It’s when you take a B&W image and make the shadows one color and the highlights another. It’s a really cool effect, and this pack includes nine starting points. As you might imagine, the final results are very image dependent, so you’ll want to play with these presets after applying to get the optimum look.

The presets indicate how different one single shot may appear to the viewer even if one applies only subtle changes. I am sure these collections will help people to experiment with their own photo collection and to find their own look and feel.

Reading your news about the preset bundle I once again wondered if there is a chance that you supplement your Preset Pack #5 “Film & Funk” also with 10 MP versions.
I already own two cameras with 10.2 MP, i.e. the good old Nikon D200 (once Nikon’s “Queen” and still a reliable working horse) and the new Nikon P7100 for journeys and stuff. Do you see any real chance for “Film & Funk” presets preserving the cool edges also for 10 MP (probably also 12 and 18 MP) in the not too distant future?

Thanks for your efforts and your feedback.

d-light,

You know, I’d really love to… but to be honest I’ve been hoping to see an update to Aperture and am hoping that there will be some kind of procedural textures in presets so I don’t have to make various sizes anymore. To be perfectly honest, I’m not going likely to do any new sizes until the next Aperture hits. If I do in fact still need sizes after that (i.e. if nothing changes), the yes. But I’m reluctant to put the effort in today for something that will hopefully be obsolete soon.

Thanks Joseph, for your reply. To be honest, I also wondered why that is necessary at all to create specific sizes for textures in an application that has so many features when it comes to non-destructive editing including resizing etc.
I fully understand your point.

So let’s keep our fingers crossed that the upcoming version of Aperture includes the necessary procedures.

d-light,

The masks are pixel TIF files. When you switch to “brush strokes” view and see that you can paint in anything you like, you see why it isn’t vector based (and therefore scaleable). But the presets could have a mask that’s scaled down on application, IMHO.
