I deleted 100+ photos that were added to Aperture 3 by mistake. They are not recoverable. I can still view them in Aperture. Is there a way to recreate the files from the photos I can view in Aperture?

Thanks,

Jim…..

Your Library only has previews and thumbnails if the files were referenced. Did you already empty the Finder Trash in OS X? Do you have Time Machine you can get them from? Do you have them backed up anywhere else? Maybe still on camera cards?

Thanks. Unfortunately I have none of your suggestions. I guess they are lost.

If you have Aperture configured for unlimited size previews, there is still a chance to get those so you have something. The unlimited size preview should have generated a full-size JPG in the Previews folder inside your Library folder. I’m not in a place where I can figure out details and write up how to find it, so I’m hoping others will respond with that information. Don’t give up all hope just yet.

I found where they are in the jpeg previews are in the library. Now I need to find out where they are amid the 17,000+ previews that are there. Thanks for the lead. I will pursue  as time allows.

If you see the photos in Aperture and just want the preview files, they are easy to get. Just select them in Aperture and drag and drop them to a Finder window. When you drag and drop from Aperture to another app or the Finder, the preview files are what is sent.

There’s no need to go searching inside the library package for them (if that is what you were doing).
