In this Live Training video, we dive into what's probably my favorite tool in the Adjustments arsenal; Curves. Here's what we talked about…

  • Luma Control; Black & White Point
  • Compare Curves to Levels
  • More than Gamma & Quartertones… curves!
  • Auto Luminance, with curve & without
  • RGB Control
  • Auto RGB
  • 4-up; Auto Levels & Curves, RGB & Luminance Script
  • Add targeted point to a curve
  • Set black, white and grey points
  • Luminance vs RGB curves
  • Linear vs Gamma-corrected curves
  • Extended Range
  • Brushing Curves
  • Multiple Instances

And of course our Q&A session, which for the first time, was run live!

Hi Joseph, I like all your training sessions so far but in this last one I really missed some information on what Curves actually are. You showed what you can achieve by pulling those control points around but you didn’t explain what this black line is you are shaping with those points. In the levels lesson you explained about the black and white points adjustments to “fill the whole rage” but with curves you have a second dimension so the whole concept is I think more complicated and I would really have loved to see you comment on that/explain the concept about this black line you are shaping to improve your picture. (Maybe you can fit it in some next training session?)

Thanks for you training sessions they are extremely useful!

Hmm, ok… I’ll have to think that through. I can add a top-up to the next LT on it, sure. Thanks!
