Since upgrading to El Capitan, I’ve found I have iPhotos, Photos and Aperture in my Dock.

When I opened iPhoto, I noticed that a good number of the iPhoto photos are no longer clear, in fact they are al but worthless, though the thumbnails look fine.  Has upgrading caused this? Is there a way to salvage them? And if I trash the iPhoto library, does it trash the iPhotos files in Aperture?

Hello John,

Did you ever get an answer to your post? I have the same problem:(

I have 19,000 photos on my computer that i desperately want to export to an external hard drive, to free up space on said computer. Then , I will look at them , eventually, to sort through, categorize /delete.

Do you happen to know how to do this project?  I have a 3tb external drive, which assuming, once I export photos and videos to this external drive, I can then delete all photos/videos on computer, thus creating more space and starting this year with a clean slate.

Got any advice for me please?

Liz, I went to the Apple help Forum. In my case, it seems I have iPhoto, Aperture and Photos libraries, so I can delete iPhoto without losing the other two. I don’t want to give you the wrong advice so please go there and state your problem. I don’t have the address at hand (sorry, I did do a quick search of my email notifications but couldn’t find anything) but I was originally able to Google the site and narrow it down to the Forum sector I wanted.
