WiFi Camera Control on LUMIX Cameras

Photo Moment - February 08, 2017

Panasonic LUMIX has an app that allows you to control your camera through a WiFi signal, (for both iOS and Android). As long as you have a strong signal, so many creative options reveal themselves.

Awesome! Fantastic rap on controling your camera.
still can't get the video to play just commercial after commercial after commercial after commercial.
sorry, I don't control the ad placement
Day three of trying to watch this video and I finally got it to play but they're just so many commercials that it's actually taken 3 days to get the video to start.
Sure I could have gotten it to start on day one if instead of working my concentrated on the video instead of just letting it play while I work but this one is definitely too commercialized to have reasonable value. This was the video that made the boss say "stop wasting your time on YouTube and figure it out for yourself".
I don’t control where the ads go. Unfortunately YouTube sometimes determines that you haven’t seen enough ads so adds more in. There’s always YouTube premium… please remember that you’re watching someone else’s hard work for free. Watching ads is the price YouTube makes you pay.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wasted bandwidth. Who gives a Dutchman!
People who use this feature; that’s who cares 🙄
Hi. Thanks for your video. Its been bery helpful for me. However, I recently noticed that I lost the button to delete photos from lumix gallery. Copy and share button are still there. I wonder if you also experienced that. Is it a problem related to updated version of the app or I need to change some settings either on app or camera? Thanks
Hi PhotoJoseph is possible with Panasonic Image app control Focust transition (POS1, POS2 / POS3) Thank you
Hi Joseph, love your videos. I have a G9 and a GX80/85. Was wondering when using the Panasonic Image App to control the camera and shooting in "bulb" is there a timer so you can see how long your exposure is? If so how do you see it?
question: do you have to turn on the wifi on the camera manually each time for the phone app to connect? or does it turn on the wifi when the camera receives power?
I want to see if it's feasible to control a camera mounted outside of reach (live streaming scenario).
Hey great video - but do you know how to set a timer photo from the app so I can take a photo without the phone oh my hand?
Any idea why my zoom controls don't show up on my Image Control app?
Are you using a powered zoom lens? Very few lenses have power zoom. Without it, there's no way to control zoom via software.
Why do you sound like Tony Stark haha
I noticed that with your camera, you can't operate the zoom on the remote app. I have a G7, and you can't control the zoom either, and I am using a 14/42 zoom lens. I have also used the remote app on an FZ1000, but the zoom controls do appear there. I find that quite weird it would show up on the FZ1000 but not the G7 or your camera.
That's because the lens does not have a motorized zoom. The FZ1000 has it, which is something you find in "Bridge" cameras (that's what that genre is called, where it's like a full size camera but does NOT have a changeable lens), where very very few dSLR/dSLM lenses have motorized zoom. I think Panasonic and Olympus each make ONE motorized zoom lens.
Very helpful video. I just shot a video on the Image app, before I saw this one😄 I will put a link to this video from mine because yours goes into more detail for manual focus. Thanks!
Hello Joseph, I run and online store and I own the lumix FX82, I know about the app, but it makes it difficult to take pictures of my self as the mobile shows . Do you know if there is a wireless remote available that could fit into my palm and enable me to take self portraits or full length images? I would really appreciate your help, I 've searched everywhere and I cannot find one.
Thank you. I'm a raw recruit, still finding my way around what the camera, and my first ever smartphone can do. I had no idea that I could control the camera via the smartphone until I was looking for a camera remote control for my birthday, and came across your video. It was very helpful indeed. I had to keep pausing it though because a) I'm not familiar enough with how to use the camera when it comes to things like aperture settings, white balance, etc.; and b) probably because you're familiar with the terminology and the geography of the camera, you were talking a little too fast for me to follow. I got the basics though, managed to get the camera and phone linked via wifi, and will watch a few more times to pick up the stuff I missed with pausing. Thanks again.
Happy it was helpful
I’m using this app with my GX7 and can’t get it to connect to my iPhone most of the time. Any suggestions
Older cameras are a bit more temperamental, especially on iOS, and really especially on older iPhone hardware.
works fully with lumix g80?
I believe so but don’t know the full list off the top of my head. It’s a free app; try it!
How far it work ? Thank
Depends on your device. No fixed range, sorry
Can you do a self timer through the app?
Depends on the camera. Some LUMIX cameras have a hardware switch for the self timer, so you may have to set it there first. I don't have it connected now but honestly if you just try it I'm sure you'll figure it out.
@@photojoseph do you need to set it on the camera first and then fire as usual on the app?
Yes
Is there focus peaking on the app?
Yes!
This is great for multicam recording.
It would be very helpful if the app wouldn't freak out (Camera Operation In Progress) if you switched to manual or manual/auto mode on the camera and manually focused with the lens. If this wasn't the case, it could operate as a monitor (albeit with a very slight delay but good enough to check focus and exposure in most scenarios). Hoping Panasonic reads these comments.
TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG
LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE SHOOOOOOOOOOOOW
does this remote control work in tandem with trackpad method of focus?
You’re really have to speed up by 10 times for this video
Engineers at Panasonic should go back to school. I’m struggling to connect my damn camera to my phone and I can’t access the photos to download. Black screen no photos listed
Hi, and thanks for your work ! did you ever try to control several GH5 in same time with several Phone ?
I have no remote control with my GX80 which is the same camera.
can you use the hdmi and the lumix app at the same time?
Yes
Good grief, three full minutes in before one word relevant to the title is spoken!
Good grief it was a live show. The format has changed FYI; all new live shows are edited and re-uploaded.
iPhone with wifi lumix is fuck, is lag
How to full view
will this work with the g9?
Yes, and it’s improved considerably since I did this video. The G9 is actually the best LUMIX camera for WiFi control right now.
What an extremely helpful video ! Thank you very much.
Can you set a timer and will it be automatic focus ?
Thank you buddy
When you press the shutter on the remote app, it does the same as if you pushed it on the camera. So if AF is on, then yes, it will. Timer can be triggered but some cameras have a hardware self timer switch, in which case that will have to be engaged physically.
sorry i would not watch the whole video, cause you love to ramble, (sorry) what about BULB MODE? Can you control bulb mode as a remote control?
is there a remote trigger ( wireless control remote) available?
@@photojoseph
Some of us are strapped for time.
You won’t take the time to watch the video, but you expect me to take MORE time and answer you here? #norespect
Do you know how to keep the camera screen on when video record under remote control? It shuts off after 30 sec...
Did you finally find a solution for this?
DITTO! Ive been searching solutions all night. cant find anything.
When using the app/remote control to shoot stills, I would like to get a quick preview of what was just shot to review without having to switch modes from "Live Control" to "Play back." I can't find an option setting to do that. Am I missing anything?

edit: Ah ha! A different Photo Joseph video (of course! "Q&A: GH5 Automatic Preview After Shot? — PhotoJoseph’s Photo Moment 2017-05-01") told me how to turn on "Auto Review" (in the C wrench --> Monitor/Display section). Once Auto Review was on, it would display on the remote app just like on the rear screen. Thanks!
There you go! ☺️
Sorry watch again. Q: can this app allow me to zoom in and out
tks
Great video
Q: Will this or the new app work on a lx10?
Q: Not sure I saw it, but can you zoom with this app?
tks
Thanks, will try and give feedback
I don’t know if it connects to the LX10 or not — you’ll have to try it. It allows zooming on the FZ1000 but I don’t know if it will do it on the LX10 (assuming it connects). Probably will since it’s power zoom.
Thanks for the video :) But isn't this just ridiculous when you just want to fire the shutter. What happened to camera just making an IR remote that fires the shutter haha
Yeah, there’s something to be said for a dedicated IR remote, but that in itself can be problematic… you can lose it, it has to be line of sight, doesn’t work well in bright light, and so-on. But the newer LUMIX cameras do have a Bluetooth trigger-only mode that’s easier and faster to connect (to the app still).
Hi, I've managed to connect the camera and phone but I have over 2000 photos in my cameras SD card, the app is only showing 1000 . Is there a way to show all the photos in the camera ??
i think theyre all jpeg really, it just seems the app is limited to show 1000 photos ?? :/
I hear ya. Could it be that half your photos are raw and half jpeg (shooting RAW + JPEG) so it is only showing you one of each?
ok thank you for the reply, the only reason i was doing it through my phone was it enabled me to upload to instagram.
I’ve never tries with that many. Honestly this is designed for pulling SOME photos, it’s not ideal for pulling that many. You’d be better off using an SD card reader for that many pictures!
Unfortunately, the remote app doesn't work with the Lumix G7 when using HDMI out ... glad it does with the G85.
Great review Joseph
I'm planning to buy a LX-10 and I'm wandering if it possible to set a selftimer (2 or 10sec.) in the app or you just have to set it on the camera itself before taken a picture.
This is nice. Sadly, the combination of my new GX85 and the Samsung tablet I have doesn't seem to be playing nicely. I got it to connect, but then it drops, Just barely got to get the preview image appear, but then it hung. Anyone else have this issue?
Good to know. I’ve heard it’s actually more reliable on Android than iOS so I’m glad to hear yo got it running
Replying to myself - as soon as I got the camera and tablet away from my laptop, things worked just fine ;-)
do you know if the image app can switch between control of two cameras if the tablet and the two cameras are all connected through a router ? on the first screen where it says your cameras name (PhotoJoseph's GX85) i know if you scroll left it shows Wifi,Bluetooth settings, I am wondering though if that would also scroll through other cameras if there was more than one available on the network ? I know this was asked before in the comments and obviously it wouldn't work if its a direct wifi connection as that's just a one to one (camera to tablet) connection, curious if it would work with multiple devices via a network though ?
Love your videos definitely the best. I noted that you have a g5 training course, do you have a G9 version?
I don’t. The GH5 was a pretty special case. However the GH5Training.com course is probably 70% relevant to the G9.
Can the Panasonic image app control multiple cameras at a time as to start and stop the recording remotely?
PhotoJoseph Thanks!
No :(
From recent experience. The wifi built in to the GH5 is very crap when it comes to connecting to a home network.
It’s really there for point to point. Connect to your mobile device.
Can we control the post focus (focus stacking) feature with remote controller via smartphone?
IIRC you can trigger it but not build the stack, but id have to test it. The app is free; give it a shot and let us know!
