Aperture 3.2.1 was released this morning to address the launch crash on Single Core Duo Macs as well as the two awful cropping bugs discussed here at length. The release notes say:
- Resolves an issue that could cause Aperture to quit unexpectedly at launch on Macs with Core Duo processors
- Addresses problems that could cause the Crop tool to switch to the incorrect orientation or resize incorrectly
- Resolves rendering issues when cropping images with Onscreen Proofing enabled
- Location menus are now displayed correctly on the map in the Places view when “Photos” is selected in the Library Inspector
Apple’s details page is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1463
The “Locations menus” bug isn’t one I’d seen yet. Let us know in the comments if you find anything amiss after this update!

updated, restarted, but I still get the odd behaviour…
when I crop an image, I click, drag and then… image disappear.
It comes back to the proper cropped view, only if I switch view on another project and back to the original one.
This happens in Viewer and Split View mode indifferently, and used to happen before update as well!
Ah, no onscreen proofing…
Anyone experiencing the same?

Marco,
Can you please create a brand new Library and import a couple of photos into that, and repeat your steps to see if the error still occurs. That will isolate it to a Library problem or a System problem.
thanks

Hi Joseph,
I just tried on a new library and the crop tool works as expected…
I noticed my other Libraries (backups) were not updated to 3.2.1 and opened and updated them one at the time.
I don’t know what’s happened, but now main Library seems to be working fine.
Thanks for the hint!
