Backblaze Cloud Backup Now Features iOS App

This is a nice (and free!) addition to an already stellar service. If you’re a Backblaze user, you can now get a free iOS app to monitor your backups and even retrieve files on the go.

For those new to the site, I’ll say it again… unless you have three copies of a file, the file doesn’t exist. The original, a local backup, and an offsite backup are critical to your data survival!

I’ve written about Blackblaze before here. Check out these article if you haven’t already:

As always you can sign up for the service here and try it out for free.

On a personal note, while I’ve never had to recover an entire drive to to crash or theft, I have recovered many accidentally deleted files. I think that’s even more embarrassing, frankly… but thank goodness they were on Backblaze!

Is the biggest difference between backblaze and Apple ICloud for photo backup the size avaiable and cost per GB?
Thanks

David,

Apple’s iCloud isn’t a backup solution — at all. iCloud is for syncing your photos and files across multiple devices but only for very specific applications and configurations. Backblaze is a set-it-and-forget-it online (cloud) backup.

Thank you, Joseph, for the heads up. That’s great news!
the app works well, too.

I’ve had a lot of hard disks fail so I have a time machine backup (local) that stores changes and revisions, I make a super duper backup that I take with me when I go on vacation (or take during upgrades) and I have an online backup through Arq (Haystack Software). I like the fact that it backs up to Amazon S3, I pay for what I use, it’s compressed/encrypted and I know Amazon isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. They had some growing pains in the early releases that forced a resend of data to continue backups but they have been stable for a long time now and I have never had an issue restoring files.

I would definitely recommend some sort of online service.

Hi Marty:

I schedule SuperDuper to run every night. I feel more protected that trying to remember to run it before vacations!

Cheers!

Just took the plunge with Backblaze. I posted a while back regarding back up redundancy and decided to add Backblaze last night.
