Can you shoot 5.9k on any external monitor other than atomos or bma?
No. Most recorders only do 4K, and RAW specifically needs to be engineered for the camera.
Can you get 5.9k Anamorphic (OpenGate) externally with the Ninja V?
@@photojoseph No worries! I don't think so either. I watched Lumix Live on YouTube and he didn't mention that either. I guess you have to upgrade for that, but I mean that kinda makes sense. S5 is an entry model and OpenGate is more of a pro feature. Thanks anyway! Love your videos :)
Oh! Yes, sorry. I was responding to so many comments on my opengate video that I thought that’s where this comment came from! I don’t think the S5 sends the opengate out over HDMI but I’d have to look it up.
@@photojoseph Thanks, but isn't that the firmware for the GH6 and not the S5?
in RAW, yes. I don’t think to ProRes but I’m not 100% sure. Needs the new firmware update. https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/dl/gh6.html
i want ask, with atomos ninja V.. how about record 4K 60p, still crop to apsc mode?
I’m thinking of moving from the GH5 to the S5 or S1 for low light, but I’m afraid I’ll miss the ibis or be annoyed by the 4K 60 crop. I’m also a little nervous to leave behind a lens system I’ve learned to love, the 12-60, 42.5 1.2, etc. I really love the GH5 system but feel like I missing shots in low light
Hi, I have the Panasonic S1, I do not have Vlog installed. I do not use Vlog, and I have no desire to use vlog. I have now updated the cam to version 2.1 firmware. This tutorial does not say you have to have Vlog installed to get access to these new features. Videos like these were my main decision driver to buy the S1 in the first place. After the update, the camera still only shoots AVCHD and MP4 in bit rates lower than my Panasonic G7? I also cannot seem to access variable frame rates to shoot at 100fps. I feel like Panasonic has tricked me into buying an expensive camera that has the same abilities as the $500 G7 - Is there a workaround, or is the only way to get the additional filming formats like 5.7 K to Spend another $199 on the Vlog upgrade? I'm pretty upset at this point. Enough that I would have rather bought a Sony if I knew of the limitations. Can Panasonic help me with my investment, or did I just spend a bunch of money on a brick?
Ok, #1, calm down. I’m not Panasonic. If you’d like some help, you can ask for it, but don’t come to my channel swinging your bat. #2, nobody tricked you into anything. Why is it when you can’t find the solution you assume you’ve been tricked? #3, reformat your post into polite questions and I’d be happy to try to help you. If that’s not something you want to do… call Panasonic tech support. Deal?
Great video. I still get Skippy intermittently on my Ninja V with my S1H. I use approved SSD Samsung 860Pro recording 4K DCI 23.98fps 4:2:2: 10 -bit 400mbps. I always format SSD in NINJA V after transferring files to computer. Does it matter if I turn off NINJA in record mode or playback for best practices?
@@photojoseph I'm using the correct cable Atomos 2.0. The Ninja V has a 4 second delay touch screen to turn off the unit in record mode or playback mode. Does it matter which mode I shut down the unit to remove the SSD, transfer files to computer and reformat again in Ninja. I usually power off camera after I turn off Ninja.
Not sure what you mean by “turn off in record mode”, however… what cable are you using?
It really is a shame that we don't have access to the full controls over the Braw settings in Resolve when shooting with the the Lumix S range and the Blackmagic Assist. It was one of the main reason for investing into the Lumix Braw ecosystem. At this stage the setup is a lemon that is nothing but underwhelming. Moving over to Sony and Prores Raw as soon as I can find someone who's willing to put up with Panasonic's terrible autofocus and BlackMagic/Resolve's half baked Braw.
That's unfortunate. I haven't tested bRAW as I'm an FCP editor, but the ProRes RAW workflow is fantastic.
Any idea which features will be coming over the s1 with its update?
no, sorry
Terimakasih om
you're welcome
if you know, do Panasonic planning to add raw recording with G9 over HDMI as Nikon did? will be huge advantage for Panasonic g9 users.
Maybe all you consumer goofs should have saved for a better lens so your S series was not suffering focus death. Oh no I have already said too much. It's like you are all trying to start a Mercedes with a Honda key. OMG but wait you can now start your Mercedes with a Honda key! Oh yeah new updates are available as of Dec 22nd. You're welcome! lol
Thank you! Still in doubt which hdmi to micro hdmi cable you use for 4k60p output. Could you please share with us the link?
I don’t have a link to that cable but any 18Gbps cables would work. Here’s a search on MonoPrice however these are quite long. https://www.monoprice.com/category/cables/hdmi-cables/micro-&-mini-hdmi-cables??nav=1&keyword=&v_Connector_B_uFilter=HDMI%20Micro
Hi i am planning to buy S1 but kind of hesitant because of all reviews about bad autofocus. Can you please guide if this update has resolved the issue?
The S1 is great for landscape, storm, and astrophotography where I shoot manual most of the time. I've also proven it can shoot the Northern Lights, with some minor post noise correction, in real time at 25fps!
@@rehanhayat dude, most Panasonic camera are great at everything that they're intended for except for autofocus. Bottom line is, if what you do require a good dependable autofocus system then just don't buy a Panasonic camera, EVER!!! I own 2 GH5 and one S1H and I bought all of them know this FACT, mainly because everything else about them is as good or better than the competition!!! I spoke to Panasonic and this is how they explained it to me...they said imagine you find yourself with a very ugly girlfriend, who's virginity you took, got her pregnant, you've already met her parents, and she already met your parents...you went on a few double dates with your friends and it finally hit you, what do you do...to put it nicely, you're stuck!! They've tried putting makeup on her, the most expensive cloth, even some nice shades, but she's just too ugly man. Just accept her for what she is cause she aint getting a prettier.
I shoot the outdoor interviews in open fields. S1 has all the features that i was looking for 10bit 4k 60fps excellent color sense but continues autofocus is the most important factor in an interview shoot. You are the expert in panasonic cameras can you guide via video how much positive change has been occured after v1.6 firmware update?
Thank you for the time and reply.
AF is always getting better. There’s no issue to resolve; it’s just an imperfect system. Try it to see if it works the way you want. No one buys a LUMIX for the autofocus. It’s superiority is in other spaces.
Great informative video
Thanks!
I gave up my pre-order for the S5 after seeing a few too many awful examples of poor AF performance. From all indications, it's worse than G9. I picked up a G9 last month instead. I love the G9 but starting to regret bailing on S5.
@@photojoseph That's good insight and thanks. I'm a lifelong Nikon shooter and slowly moved to m43 via Olympus Pen and Lumix GX series. So, to abandon my collection of glass for a move to L mount now means I want to be really sold on the decision. :) AF isn't the only factor. But, Sony and Canon have raised the bar significantly. Panasonic needs to close that gap. Everything else about Lumix cams is wonderful. I'm loving my G9.
So look… AF on the LUMIX cameras has never been their strongest point. It does keep getting better, and the S5 is probably the best of the bunch, but it's still not Sony or Canon level AF. That said, I can make a review video that makes any camera look good — and any camera look terrible. I think you need to try it to see if it works the way YOU shoot, and of course if any limitations in it are worth putting up with to gain the other advantages. Every camera has its pluses and minuses. If AF is the single most important thing to you… then it may not be the right camera. Pains me to say it, but I gotta be honest.
@@comptoirdugeek7213 yep I love it so far. I'm only yearning a bit for the great low light chops that the S5 has demonstrated in testing.
The g9 is still a monster, believe me ...
Just knew that we could rely on you Joseph! Just update the S1R and G9, hopefully i'll get the chance to try them out at the weekend. I'm actually more excited about the G9 update. As normal a top class video, straight to it... Thanks
@Denver Grady it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out :D
@Denver Grady I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Chris Bronson Instablaster =)
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me
Thanks Andrew!
Is anyone else (here) having any issues with their S1/S1R after the update? I've been going around in various threads copy/pasting this same response so I apologise if anyone sees this same post more than once, but I think I may be onto something. Hope I can provide some help to anyone else having issues. I'm having this AF-S pulsing/exposure flashing issue on my S1. Basically it can't seem to focus and just hunts and hunts almost as if it's trying to continuously focus but yet it's set to AF-S and It's happening in AF-S specifically. (continuous AF seems to be faster after the update and seems to work well). The brighter the lighting is, the worse it gets and how often it does it. (I only tested indoor artificial lighting. Haven't tested daylight yet) From what I can tell it appears to be a bug in the firmware when the electronic viewfinder is set to 120fps in the menus. When I set it to 60fps, at least for me the issue goes away. This is with using my Sigma 35mm 1.2 which is my only native L-mount lens I currently own that I can test this with. The other lenses I own are Sigma SA mount lenses adapted via the MC-21 adapter. Those lenses seem to work flawlessly on AF-S as they did before the update. I've found a few people with the same problem as I have and if anyone else here is experiencing this phenomenon, please call panasonic and notify them of the issue so they can escalate the case to the update department. I did that today and they said the more people who call in about the same occurrence will bring awarenesses to this being a widespread known issue and will speed up the process of getting the issue resolved in the next firmware update. Hope this might help make things more manageable for anyone else having this same problem.
Wanted to give an update, this has been patched!! They've just released firmware 1.7 which fixes a couple bugs.
@@thomasgunn4146 fascinating. Thanks for your diligence on this!
@@photojoseph I think I've figured it out. At least on my end, it's directly connected to certain types of LED lighting. Under every other lighting condition including outdoor natural light, under those conditions I have zero issues. I have LED lights (different brands of incandescent replacements) in almost every room in my house and only specific rooms with those specific bulbs do I have the issue. I did a test between two rooms and swapped out the bulbs and replicated the issue with the problem bulbs in question. I reported that to the one of the higher ups handling my case, and he was also able to replicate that problem with his own equipment. He said he is going to be reporting it to the engineering department today. Very interesting, but I'm just glad my camera isn't broken 😌
This has been reported, FYI.
Thanks for sharing this; I'll pass it along as well.
It is a myth that the camera must be fully charged during a firmware update.
It is Panasonic's recommendation, and so I repeat that.
Outstanding informative video-- thanks so much!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you 😊, but you forgot........... everyone already said it! Wonderful Thanksgiving I hope. I guess we get to watch another video!
Yeah there just isn’t much to say on the G9… visit my site https://PhotoJoseph.com/Nov2020LUMIXfirmwareUpdates and you’ll see the details.
But why g100 and not gh5
@@nwpgunner that doesn’t mean the processor can handle it. There’s a lot more to a camera than the sensor.
@@photojoseph The GH5 sensor is capable of 5.9K though.
Because the GH5 is nearly four years old and they’ve already squeezed everything they can out of that processor. The G100 is a new camera, released this year.
Is there any review available for s1 with firmware 1.6 focus improvements?
There are a couple solid ones on YouTube now.
I’m sure someone will do one, but I didn’t nor do I plan to
Still no good GH5S updates :(
There have been SIX updates for the GH5S since it was released in January 2018. The current firmware version is 1.6.
Nice HDR
Thank you! You’re the first to notice :-)
Awesome video Joe! Thanks for that.
Great video! Buuuuut you forgot to mention what the G9 update is?
@@photojoseph No worries :) And thanks for the link. I agree that it was minimal.
Here's what jpn-site says:
- Fixed the problem of overexposure when burst shooting with the settings of SH1, SH2, SH1 PRE, SH2 PRE.
- Improved LVF image quality when waiting for shooting in creative video mode.
Yeah fair… because it’s minimal. Click the link below to see all the details. This was primarily about S Series although I should have given more mention to the G as well. Kinda realized they way too late.
Nice!! I still have hopes for S1, am not giving up yet on my S1. Thanks for the Video Mr. Joe
S1 one will get update 2.0 in 1Q of 2021 that will allow to shoot 5.9k internal and output raw as s5 and S1H
The S1 is a rockin’ camera!
