(originally there was no sound until about 12 minutes into the show, but I've trimmed that, so if you hear confusing references to the silent part of the show… that's why 😁 )
Sound! Nice.
Question: I’m having a problem with a practical (a small lamp with a dimmed Phillips Hue bulb in it): despite all the recording settings I’ve experimented with on my Sony ZV-E10, the light from the practical shimmers. I can get rid of the shimmering by throwing a bunch more light in the direction of the practical (by letting in daylight from a window), but then the room I’m recording in is brighter than I like. Anyone got a fix for this problem?
I also shoot on Sony cameras, also can’t use Philips hue. Aputure B7c bulb for lamps, elgato light strip to replace hue light strip. I have a flicker free video studio now! If you must use the Philips hue move it further from any hard surfaces like a wall and it will less noticeable (but still there).
Thanks so much for the response. Yeah, I was wondering whether it might be specific to the Phillips Hue light. I already had tried 1/50 and 1/60, which didn’t work, so I’ll ditch the bulb, try out a different brand of dimmable bulb I have, and then, if that doesn’t work, look into an Aputure alternative (starting with the Aputure light I already have). Thanks again for the response. Much appreciated.
I’m guessing you’re in North America. Yeah, the problem is the Hue bulbs are built in Europe for a 50Hz frequency. Even though they run on our 60Hz electrical system, they flicker at 50Hz. THe best thing is to get rid of ‘em. Aputure makes some lightbulb-like cinema grade lights. You can try running your Sony at 1/50 instead of 1/60 and that will likely fix the flicker from the Hue, but will probably introduce flicker from your other lights. I actually do use Hue in my setup, but I have my camera set to a 173d shutter and that hides it. I don’t think your Sony has synchro-scan shutter angle though so you don’t have that precision.
No sound!
I for one would not buy lights that use apps to control, at least not exclusively. there is this really awesome system for controlling lights called DMX. i only buy lights with this feature. yes you need a console to control the signals, but it might actually be cheaper if you are needing to control several types/brands of lights. I come from a stage lighting background, which is a little different from production lighting, but the same principals apply. plus with DMX console i can set it all up to run via a streamdeck.
@@photojoseph yes, it is a whole other animal. i regret purchasing every light i own that doesnt have it. it is not an entry level thing.
All of these lights can be controlled on the device itself too. DMX is great but that’s a whole other big thing.
